Playing With The Cats At SPCA
After we handed the dove to the SPCA staff, mum and I spent some time playing with the cats at SPCA. Look, I was surrounded by cats!
Auntie Yin would love these cats! Too bad I couldn't bring one home. I really like a cat called Chase and a small kitten.
We spent quite a long time there. The cats were smart and alert. Hope they find good homes soon!

Bird Rescue!
Helping A Spotted Dove
It was a really WINDY day.
Mum went out to buy some food and saw a young bird in the grass patch with tall trees. It could not fly and was helpless. She rushed home to get a box and I went with her to rescue the bird.
We guessed that the young bird fell from its nest. Mum said it probably had not learnt to fly yet. She was worried that the cats would get the bird.
We called SPCA after taking the bird home. As we were going off on holiday and could not care for the bird till it could fly, SPCA told us to bring the bird in.
We went to SPCA in a cab. The cab driver thought we were nuts to rescue a bird.
SPCA said if the bird was well, it would care for it till it could fly. But if it was badly hurt, it might have to be put down.
We thought the bird did not look injured and hope it would fly one day.
That was an interesting day. After that, we went to look at the dogs and play with the cats at SPCA.
By the way, mum said that this was the kind of spotted dove her mother (my grandma who died when I was 3 months old) had as a pet. It made nice cooing sounds, she said.

Up Close & Personal With Grasshoppers
Meet Pelvis, The Grasshopper
Elvis was the first grasshopper we found eating our bean plant leaves. We caught it. It was big. Dad said it needed space to jump, so we released it.
Then came Pelvis. He was a lot smaller when mum captured it. He tried to leap but its hind leg was caught by the edge of the container. The hind limb ripped off! Mum felt very bad and decided to keep it as a pet.
It ate like mad. And moulted three times! Here's the "shell" from its second moult.
It was amazing! The shell was exactly Pelvis, minus one missing limb. Even the antennae were there! Also, it always emerged so much larger!
Here's the last moult. It's missing limb did not grow back again. It had a funny green blob on one of its wings. It turned out very different looking.
Mum said since its wings were out, it was time to release it. Pelvis should be looking for a mate.
It was really cool watching Pelvis! Best science lesson on life cycle of a grasshopper!
p.s We did not even know grasshoppers pooped but yes, Pelvis pooped a lot!

Identity Revealed
I'm A Shark.....Or Not
Unlike humans, sharks have rows of teeth. And since my permanent teeth kept erupting behind my baby teeth before they fell out, I'm a SHARK!
But no more soon.
The school dental nurse discovered my identity. She sent me to the National Dental Centre to get my teeth issues ironed out.
The dentist there sent me for an X-ray of my teeth.
They put me in a protective apron while they took the X-ray.
I could see the rest of my permanent teeth and they are sitting right under by baby teeth. So they should be coming out fine, mum said.
Meanwhile, the dentist is trying to get the rest of my teeth that have erupted pushed out and aligned.

Giant Bean Pod!
Yes! My Bean Plant's Got A Pod!
My first bean plant grown from the kidney bean that my science teacher gave me died because of a plant disease. But Joy was very nice to give me two kidney beans, and mum and I grew them. We left them in our old house when we moved and thought they would die, but they survived a week without watering! Mum quickly brought them to our new place and they really flourished. We've got flowers and yes, a giant pod on one of them!
Our neighbour who helps us water the plants (we call her auntie) keeps asking mum if the bean can be eaten.
By the way, the grasshoppers love eating the bean leaves. We caught one, Elvis, but released it. Elvis was quite a big grasshopper. After Elvis, we caught another smaller grasshopper on our bean plant. Its name is Pelvis and it's our pet now. Will post pictures of Pelvis soon. There is a third grasshopper. We named it Melvis but it has not been captured yet.

Sunny Sentosa!
Sun, Sand, Sea &....Snake!
Taking a break from the books during the September school break, my friends and I went to Sentosa. All of us tried the Luge for the first time. Our mums were more scared than us! Haha! My mum said she would never take the sky lift again!
The animal show at the amphitheatre was really good because the presenter, Joshua, was so entertaining. He rocks!
We all got to touch the python at the end of the show. Nice!
It was fun playing in the sea, too.
Unfortunately, Isaiah and family had to go off first after dinner.
We went across the the rope bridge to the southern most point of the Asia continent. That was a really nice walk to end the evening!

The World's Largest Moth
Meet the Atlas Moth
We spotted two separate Atlas moths on different occasions in the carpark at our old house.
One was on daddy's car! The other (below) was on a wall. It was amazing because it is so big!
The moth is said to be the largest moth in the world. It originates in Indonesia.
It is called the Atlas moth because of the map-like patterns on its wings. It lives for about 2 weeks and is nocturnal. The Atlas moth lays its eggs on the Sea Poison Tree.
(research by mum, haha!)
I felt really fortunate to be able see the moth close up!

****** Question: How do you tell the difference between a moth and a butterfly? ******
My mum's friend who is a science teacher says it is incorrect to think that all moths spread out their wings whereas butterflies fold their wings. She says that moths have feathery antennae whereas butterflies don't.
Mum says there are often exceptions in nature, just like English grammar! God is unpredictable....

Honey Or No Honey?
We Found A Bee Hive!
Mum and I found a bee hive on a roadside tree right in front of the gate at our home. Mum called Nparks to remove the hive as she was worried the bees would sting people, especially children. I felt quite anxious. I don't like bees. The bee hive removal was quite lame. Two guys came. They were covered up except their faces and necks. One of the guys fixed a can on a pole and pushed the smoking can up to the hive.
Immediately, some bees flew towards the two guys and started attacking them. One got stung on the ear and neck. A bee seemed to have got into the clothes of the other guy because he asked his friend to smack his back all over. Why didn't they cover their faces?
The bees started flying off the hive. Mum and I were watching from our home, and she quickly closed the windows. Good thing, because one bee smacked against the window.
After a while, the guys just knocked the hive off the tree and went off, leaving it on the ground. There's honey in the comb.
I have many questions.
Don't they have to remove the hive? Will the bees return to the hive?
Where did the bees fly off to? When bees have no hive, where do they go?
What happened to queen bee? Did she die? If not, where would she go?
If we keep removing bee hives, won't there be no more bees?
It was really interesting. That's why mum let me stop my exam revision and watch the bee hive removal process.

If you are a bee expert and have the answers to my questions, do let me know!

Gong Gong
My Gong Gong & I
This is my gong gong.
He has been trying to carry me and get me to kiss him since I was a baby.
Mum says I'm selective and only allow certain people to carry me. Consider yourself privileged if you have ever carried me!!
As for a kiss.......fat hope! :-)
p.s. DON'T pat my head. Don't blame me if I smack you :-(

Bye, Carpark Cat!
She Rules The Carpark
This is the cat who lives in the carpark at our previous home.
She likes to sleep at one particular carpark lot. She will sleep on the roof or bonnet of any car parked there. Daddy parked his car there once. She slept on it and while walking down, left her paw prints on the windscreen.
Most of the residents are kind to her. Someone adopted her as well, but she is left free to roam the carpark.
Once, mum saw her climb a coconut tree.
We miss the cat though we have other cats in our new neighbourhood.
Bakugan!
(besides yo-yo)
They flick open when you put them on a magnetic surface. You can use the magnetic playcards. I put them on mum's fridge, too (don't think she likes them there...)

My school does not allow us to bring them. At one stage, the discipline master was going around - as we like to say it -confiscating balls (hee, heee, heee).
I don't bring them to school. I had to pay for some of them myself!

My New Drumset
Green Gold Tip
Finally!
The gold tip was hard to get! Took me quite a while. I'm training at another dojo now but under the same instructors. Looking forward to the next belt!
Furry Friends Near Us
Kitties & Rabbits
Mum says it's hard for you to find cats where you are. We've got lots of cats at the alley near our new house. The old lady who feeds them tells us stories about them.
Two rabbits living a few houses down play with the cats. Mum thought she was seeing things when she saw a rabbit and a cat sleeping side by side. The old lady says the cats and the rabbits love to play together. Once, one of the cats fought with one of the rabbits. The rabbit won.
Then there is this cat who snuggles in the drain hole every day. You can see its paws and if you peer in, you see it.
Here's one of the bunnies. It doesn't eat the cats' food. It just comes out to play with them and the old lady says they have a ball of a time together. Very strange.
